Paint washing off

Post by ScottC »

Hello,

I'm trying to lean the process, and my first attempt looked good... Until it all washed off in a sheet, leaving almost completely clean paper.

I used alum at 10% w/v (10g in 100mL). I wiped it on and left it until it was damp but not dry. Should it be drier perhaps? My alum powder, although dry, is a few years old. Does it go off?

Try using only distilled water to mix your alum solution. Steam distilled is best if you can find it.
Also, if you're using buffered paper, it might not be the alum that is causing paints to wash off.
See "buffered paper" response.
